Salute to 911

The last time I was in New York, I visited the 911 site, and happened to meet a few of our heroes while passing by the nearby firehouse.

It felt great to thank them personally for sacrificing their lives as well as their health for their participation in the 911 clean up.  NYC Firehouse memorabilia happened to be available all over the airport and everywhere in Manhattan, so I chided them about being New York’s media darlings.  I’ll never forget how charming they were.

Running across this firehouse in Bangkok, reminded me that heroes live all over the world.  It didn’t feel right asking this fireman about the civil unrest in Bangkok at the time.  But I know that Thai’s love to eat, so it was safe to talk about food.  I asked him if the firemen used the many street vendors nearby but he said that just like America, they have “in-house” cooks.

A book of favorite Thai dishes prepared by the Firehouse Cooks of Thailand? Humm …  God Bless the spirit of the heroes in the world!
